Oakville Guitar Teacher

Peter Smith studied music at Humber College and completed an Honors Bachelor of Music degree at Wilfrid Laurier University (1991). In addition he holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Western Ontario (1992).

A Little About Peter

Peter is the author of The Harris Guitar Method, a 3-volume series of guitar method books published by Frederick Harris Music (1986-95). He also produced a series of guitar instruction videos for Rogers Cable entitled “Guitar Workshop”.

He has performed extensively as a guitarist in various performing and recording ensembles. Peter’s own compositions have been played on Canada’s Smooth Jazz radio station, WAVE 94.7 (Click here for Portfolio).

Teaching Experience

As a former Guitar Instructor for the Merriam School of Music from 1994-97 and 1998-2008, he performed in, composed and orchestrated many concert presentations organized by the school. This included performances at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre.

While teaching at MSM, he created a series of 5 workbooks for the guitar curriculum. He served as an examiner, adjudicator, in-service instructor and guitar department head during that period. He also held the position of an adjudicator for the 2007 Midland Music Festival.

Peter has been providing music lessons to children, youth and adults for over 30 years. He has been teaching guitar and piano lessons in the Oakville area for more than 17 years.

Peter has been operating his private teaching studio in the River Oaks neighbourhood of Oakville since 2008. Peter’s lessons are engaging, inspiring and fun.
