Biography - Peter Smith Oakville Guitar Teacher
Peter Smith studied music at Humber College and completed an Honors Bachelor of Music degree at Wilfrid Laurier University (1991). In addition he holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Western Ontario (1992).
Peter is the author of The Harris Guitar Method, a 3-volume series of guitar method books published by Frederick Harris Music (1986-95). He also produced a series of guitar instruction videos for Rogers Cable entitled "Guitar Workshop".
He has performed extensively as a guitarist in various performing and recording ensembles. Peter's own compositions have been played on Canada's Smooth Jazz radio station, WAVE 94.7 (see Guitar Audio Excerpts).
As a former Guitar Instructor for the Merriam School of Music from 1994-97 and 1998-2008, he performed in, composed and orchestrated many concert presentations organized by the school. This included performances at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre.
While teaching at MSM, he created a series of 5 workbooks for the guitar curriculum. He served as an examiner, adjudicator, in-service instructor and guitar department head during that period. He also held the position of an adjudicator for the 2007 Midland Music Festival.
